Best by Category Awards

Name the best dancer or entry in each age division, level, performance type or style, or in a custom group, for the whole event or at every awards ceremony.

A Best by Category award picks its winners from the scores automatically. Use it for awards such as "Best Overall per age group", "Best Ballet Dancer" or "Best Solo at each ceremony". Judges do nothing extra.

Setting one up

  1. Open the event and go to Edit Event, Awards, then Edit Section.
  2. Under Custom Awards, click Add Award and give it a name, for example "Best Overall".
  3. Choose a type under Best by category:
    • Best per Age Division, Best per Level, Best per Performance Type or Best per Style: one winner for each value.
    • Best in a Custom Scope: one winner from a group you build.
  4. Choose the settings below. The summary at the bottom tells you exactly which winners the award will name.
  5. Click Add. The award saves immediately. Use the pencil on its row to change it later.

The settings

SettingChoices
Who winsBest dancer ranks dancers by their items. Best entry ranks entries (routines).
A dancer's scoreAverage of their items, or Their highest single item. Only for Best dancer.
Items that countSolos only (entries with one dancer), or Solos and groups. A group entry counts for every dancer in it.
When it is awardedOnce, for the whole event, or At every awards ceremony: one winner per session, where a session is the sections before an Awards item in the schedule.
ValuesEvery value your event uses (new ones are included automatically), or only the ones you tick. One winner for each.

Custom scopes

A custom scope is one group with one winner. Pick up to 4 values in total, for example 4 age divisions, or 2 age divisions and 2 styles. Values in the same row are alternatives; when you pick in more than one row an entry must match every row. "Mini and Children" with "Ballet and Jazz" means a Mini or Children entry in Ballet or Jazz.

When winners appear

  • A whole-event award for one value is declared as soon as every section in that value is locked. Best Overall: Mini can be announced at the ceremony after the last Mini section, without waiting for the end of the event.
  • A per-session award is declared once every section of that value in the session is locked.
  • Until then the Awards tab shows the award as waiting and names the sections still open.
  • Ties share the award.

Who can win

  • A dancer is recognised by surname, date of birth and ID number, so a dancer entered twice under two profiles still counts once with all their items.
  • Battles never count.
  • Dancers who performed out of section, and scratched entries, do not count.
  • The section decides the category. A group entry in the Junior section counts for Junior.

Where winners show

  • The Awards tab on Results, with the next places listed for your checks before a ceremony.
  • Studio, dancer and public results, once results are revealed.
  • An award certificate. A Best dancer certificate names the dancer, not a routine.
  • Best Studio placement points: each award a studio's entry or dancer wins adds 2 points.
