Best Studio Standings

Rank studios across the whole event, with three scoring methods to choose from.

Naming a best studio means aggregating scores across your whole event. Doing it by hand is slow and, worse, arguable: the answer changes depending on how you count, and if you have not decided how you count before you announce, someone will challenge it.

Best Studio does the aggregation and makes the method explicit.

Where to find it

Results and Certificates, then the Best Studio tab.

To announce a Best Studio winner, switch on the Best Studio award under Edit Event, Awards: choose the method and whether to name a runner-up. The award then appears on the Awards tab, in the studio, dancer and public results once every schedule day is closed, and as a certificate. The Best Studio tab opens on the award's method; switching method on the tab is only a comparison and does not change the award.

The three scoring methods

You pick the method, and the ranking updates immediately. Each rewards something different, so choose before you announce, not after.

MethodHow it countsBest for
Average ScoreSums every entry's average score and divides by the number of entriesFairest to smaller studios. Rewards consistent quality over volume.
Total PointsAdds the average score of every entry together, no divisionRewards the studios that bring the most entries. Big rosters win.
Placement PointsPodium places plus named awards, see belowMost competitive. Rewards landing on podiums and winning awards.

How Placement Points are calculated

SourcePoints
1st place in a section5
2nd place in a section3
3rd place in a section1
Each Judge Award (gala and custom judge nominations)2
Each Special Award (section and overall top scorers)2
Each Best by Category award a studio's entry or dancer wins (once per award, even when two of its dancers share it)2

Top Score per Session wins do not earn Special points. Organiser-promoted entries count normally toward podium totals.

What is included

  • Only entries that have been scored. Unscored entries are ignored.
  • Only entries linked to a studio. Independent dancers have no studio, so they cannot contribute to a studio's total.
  • Battle sections are excluded from all three methods, because a battle places competitors head to head rather than producing comparable scores.

Ties

Studios on the same value share a rank. What comes next follows your event's tie setting under Scoring: by default two studios tied on 2nd are both 2nd and the next studio is 4th; with dense ranking the next studio is 3rd.

For the Best Studio award this decides the runner-up. If two studios tie for first, both win. With the default tie setting there is then no 2nd place, so no runner-up is named; with dense ranking the next studio is the runner-up.

Common questions

A studio I expected is missing. Check that its entries have been scored and that the entries are actually linked to that studio. An entry with no studio cannot be counted.

The order changes when I switch method. That is the point: the three methods measure different things. Pick the one that matches how you have described the award to your studios.

Can I announce this before the event finishes? You can view it any time, but the numbers are only final once every section has been scored and finalised.
