How You Become a Judge
There are three ways to join a competition as a judge:
- Invitation from an organiser: The event organiser sends you an email invitation with a link to accept
- Registration code: The organiser shares a code (e.g., on social media or in a group chat) that you enter on the event registration page or from your judge dashboard
- Direct registration: You find the event on Kompdesk and register using a code provided by the organiser
All three methods require either an invitation or a registration code from the organiser. You cannot join an event as a judge without one.
Registering as a Judge
You can register in three ways:
- Email and Password: Fill out Full Name, Email, Password, and Confirm Password
- Existing account: If you already have a Kompdesk account, sign in and add the Judge role
- Google sign-in: Register directly with your Google account
After registering, you'll need to verify your email before you can access the judge dashboard.
Accepting an Invitation
When an organiser invites you:
- You receive an email with a personalised invitation showing event details (name, dates, venue)
- Click the Accept Invitation link in the email
- If you already have a judge account, log in and click Accept
- If you don't have an account, you'll be prompted to register first
- Once accepted, the event appears on your Judge Dashboard
Using a Registration Code
If the organiser gave you a registration code instead of a personal invitation:
From the event registration page:
- Go to the event's registration page (the organiser may share this link)
- Select "Register as Judge"
- Enter the registration code and click Validate
- Fill in your judge profile details (name, optional specialty and bio)
- Click Register to complete
From your Judge Dashboard:
- Log in to your Judge Dashboard
- Click Find Events or enter the event code/slug
- Open the event. You'll be prompted to enter a registration code
- Enter the code, fill in your details, and confirm
Once registered, the event appears on your dashboard just like an accepted invitation.

Your Judge Dashboard
After logging in, your dashboard shows:
- Total Events: A count of all competitions you're assigned to
- My Details: Click to view and edit your judge profile
- Profile Completion Warning: Appears if your specialty or bio is missing
- Judge Profile Card: Displays your specialty, years of experience, and bio
- Live now: a green panel at the top listing any event that is on today, each with an Open to judge button. An event stays here through its last day
- Upcoming and Completed: your other events, each group with a count. Events show name, dates, venue, and organisation
- Day pills: on a multi-day event, each day shows its date, with Day 1, Day 2 and so on added where two days would otherwise read the same
- Find Events: Browse available events to join
If you haven't been assigned to any events yet, you can enter an event code or slug to find a specific event, or click Browse Events to explore what's available.
From the dashboard, click Open Event on any event to access the judging interface.
Before Event Day
Prepare by:
- Completing your judge profile (especially specialty and bio)
- Logging in and confirming you can see your assigned event
- Familiarising yourself with the scoring interface (this help guide covers it)
- Ensuring your device is charged and has a stable internet connection
- Checking your device meets the minimum specs. See "Judge Device Requirements"
Online Competitions
Some events you're invited to may be online competitions: there's no event day. Instead, dancers submit performance videos and you score them in your own time, in any order, during the event's judging window. Your dashboard shows when judging opens and closes, with a countdown while the window is open. See "Scoring Performances" for how the online judging interface works.
