If the event organiser has enabled online payments, your Fees page (studios) or Fees and Payments page (independent dancers) shows a Pay Now card whenever you have an outstanding balance, with a button for each way the organiser accepts: PayFast (card or instant EFT) and, if switched on, PayPal. The money goes directly to the event organiser.
If you do not see the card, the organiser has not enabled online payments for this event. Use the payment instructions on the same page instead.
Paying Your Balance
- Open your portal's Fees page and check your balance.
- Click the PayFast or PayPal button. A confirmation shows the exact amount the server calculated. If entries changed since you loaded the page, the updated amount is shown plainly.
- Click Continue to PayFast or Continue to PayPal and complete payment on their secure page.
- You are returned to your Fees page, which confirms the payment within a few seconds. Your balance updates and a receipt is emailed to you.
Do not pay again while the page says your payment is being confirmed. If confirmation takes longer than a minute, it will still reflect shortly. If it has not reflected within an hour, contact the event organiser. Never pay twice.
Paying a Different Amount
Use Pay a different amount below the button to pay part of your balance (minimum R 5.00, maximum your balance due). Your status shows Partially Paid until the balance reaches zero, and you can pay the remainder the same way at any time.
Common Questions
Q: My balance is under R 5.00. Why can I not pay online?
A: PayFast's card minimum is about R 5.00. Please pay the organiser directly using their payment instructions.
Q: My fees are in dollars, euros or pounds. What will my card be charged?
A: PayFast settles in South African Rand, so your balance is converted at the rate the organiser has set. The confirmation screen shows the exact Rand figure before you continue, and your account is credited in the event's own currency. Your bank may apply its own conversion on top of that.
Q: I am outside South Africa. Can I still pay?
A: Yes. PayFast accepts Visa and Mastercard issued anywhere in the world. If the organiser has also switched on PayPal, you will see a Pay with PayPal button and can pay from your PayPal account instead.
Q: I paid with PayPal. Why was I charged in US dollars?
A: PayPal does not process South African Rand, so for an event priced in Rand, PayPal charges US dollars at the rate the organiser has set. The confirmation screen shows the exact dollar amount before you continue, and your fees are credited in Rand. PayPal or your card issuer may apply their own conversion on top of that.
Q: I approved the payment at PayPal but closed the page. Did it go through?
A: Kompdesk completes approved PayPal payments within about 15 minutes, even if you did not come back to the page. Check your Fees page later. Do not pay again.
Q: More entries were added after I paid. What now?
A: Your balance simply increases by the new fees and the Pay Now card returns. Pay the difference when ready.
Q: I cancelled at PayFast. Was I charged?
A: No. Cancelling at PayFast changes nothing. Your balance stays as it was.
Q: The page says the gateway is in test mode. Should I pay?
A: No real money moves in test mode. The organiser is still setting things up. Wait for the notice to disappear, or pay via their payment instructions.
Q: Who receives my payment?
A: The event organiser, directly into their PayFast account. Kompdesk never holds your money. For refunds, contact the organiser.
Q: I am an independent dancer who also dances with a studio. What do I pay?
A: You pay only your own independent entries from your independent portal. Entries made through your studio are billed to the studio.
