Promoting Dancers Above Podium Thresholds

When podium thresholds demote a top-scoring dancer, promote them to their rightful podium position.

When podium thresholds are enabled (e.g. 1st ≥ 95, 2nd ≥ 90, 3rd ≥ 85), a top-scoring dancer who just misses the threshold gets demoted. A section winner scoring 94 would land at rank 4 even though nobody else scored higher.

Podium overrides let you lift the threshold rule for the top three raw-scoring entries in a section so they land at their matching podium position purely on score order.

Open it from the Event Dashboard sidebar → Correct Results → Podium Overrides tab.

When to Use It

  • A section's highest-scoring entry is below the 1st-place threshold and you want them at 1st anyway
  • The top 2 or 3 raw-scorers are all below their respective thresholds and you want them to fill the podium
  • You need a "pick them anyway" override for a specific section without changing the global threshold rules

If podium thresholds are disabled for your event, this tab shows a note explaining there's nothing to override. All sections already rank by raw score.

How It Works

Each section shows its current ranking (with thresholds applied). For the top three raw-scoring entries in each section, a Promote to 1st / 2nd / 3rd button appears when that entry isn't already sitting at its raw position.

  • Raw 1st place → "Promote to 1st" button
  • Raw 2nd place → "Promote to 2nd" button
  • Raw 3rd place → "Promote to 3rd" button

Click the button to grant the promotion. The affected section shows an "Override active" badge in its header.

Already-promoted entries get a Revert promotion button instead, which undoes the override.

The Rules

Two hard rules protect the ranking system:

  1. Only the top three raw-scorers in a section can be promoted. You cannot promote a 4th-place or lower entry. The "Promote" button simply doesn't appear for them.
  2. An entry only lands at their raw rank. Promoting the raw 2nd-place entry puts them at 2nd, not 1st. Promoting the raw 1st-place entry puts them at 1st. You cannot reshuffle beyond what their raw score supports.

If something unexpected happens (a score edit pushes someone else above the promoted entry), the ranking engine silently drops the promotion. An out-of-band override cannot corrupt the podium.

What Changes After a Promotion

  • The promoted entry appears at its new rank in the organizer Results page, with a "Promoted above threshold by organiser" badge next to the rank
  • All other surfaces (public results, studio portal, dancer portal, independent dancer portal, certificates, awards) show the new rank without the badge. Dancers and studios see the final placement as authoritative, not as an override
  • Certificates, awards, and rank-dependent emails all reflect the new position immediately

Good to Know

  • You can promote multiple positions in the same section (e.g. 1st and 2nd) in any order. Each button is independent
  • Revert works at any time and takes effect immediately
  • Overrides do not change anyone's raw score, just how the threshold rule is applied to that specific entry
  • If you edit scores after promoting, the override stays attached to that entry. If the score edit changes who should be 1st raw-score-wise, the promotion on the original entry naturally stops applying and the new top-scorer becomes eligible for their own promote button
