A Showcase (also called a Production) is a live, ticketed, non-competitive event: a recital, showcase, or full production. A Competition is a judged event you register and enter for. They behave very differently, which is why some things you expect from a competition are missing on a showcase.
Why can't I see my showcase event under the dancer and studio portals in Find Events?
You cannot register for a showcase because it is not a competition you enter for. Find Events only lists competitions that are open for public registration. Showcases are curated by the organizer, are never publicly listed, and have no registration flow, so they never appear there. If you are part of a showcase, the organizer adds you as a cast member; you do not sign up yourself.
What is the actual difference between a showcase and a competition?
| Aspect | Competition | Showcase |
|---|---|---|
| How you take part | You register and enter | The organizer adds you to the cast |
| Judged? | Yes | No |
| Results and placements | Yes | None |
| Entry fees | Yes | None |
| Publicly listed in Find Events | Yes | No |
| How the audience attends | Tickets or open to public | Tickets via a shared link |
Can dancers or studios register for a showcase?
No. There is no registration for a showcase. The organizer builds the programme and chooses the cast, so a studio cannot submit entries and a dancer cannot self-register the way they would for a competition.
How do I get into a showcase if I can't register for it?
The event organizer adds you as a cast member and links you to the performances you appear in. If you have a Kompdesk dancer account, the showcase, its programme, and your own performances then appear automatically in your dancer portal. You do not need to do anything to join.
Will my showcase performance be judged, scored, or placed?
No. A showcase has no judges, no score cards, no scoring, and no placements. Nothing is judged. If you want your dancers scored and ranked, the organizer needs to run a competition instead.
Do I pay an entry fee or registration fee for a showcase?
No. Showcases have no entry fees and no registration fees, because performances are not registrations. The revenue for a showcase comes from ticket sales, not from performers paying to enter.
Will I get results, certificates, or awards from a showcase?
No. Because a showcase is non-competitive, there are no results, no certificates, and no awards. If you are looking for a results page or a certificate, the event you performed in was a showcase, not a competition.
Where do I see when my showcase is on and what the running order is?
Cast members with a Kompdesk account can open the showcase from their dancer portal to see the programme and their own performances. On show day the audience and cast follow the live running order (the Spectator Program) through the event's shared ticket link, which updates performance by performance as the show progresses.
How do spectators attend a showcase if it isn't listed anywhere?
The organizer shares the event's ticket link. Spectators buy tickets online or at the door through that link, and the same link is where ticket holders follow the live programme. There is no public listing to browse, so the shared link is the only way in.
My studio runs in both showcases and competitions. Why do only the competitions show up in Find Events?
Find Events is only for competitions that are open for registration. Your showcase involvement is managed by the organizer through the cast list, so it never appears in Find Events even though your dancers are performing. This is expected, not a bug or a missing event.
Does a showcase need to be published with a token like a competition?
The organizer publishes a showcase using a standard day-tiered event token, the same kind used for in-person competitions. This matters only to the organizer. As a dancer or studio, you never pay for or publish anything for a showcase; you simply appear once the organizer adds you to the cast.
I think my competition is missing from Find Events. Is it actually a showcase?
Possibly. If an event you expected to register for does not appear in Find Events, first check with the organizer whether it is a competition or a showcase. Showcases never appear there by design. If it truly is a competition, it may not be published yet, or registration may not be open. Ask the organizer to confirm it is published and open for registration.
