By default, Kompdesk prevents the same dancer from being entered twice in the same section for solo performances. Some events allow it (organiser opt-in). If you see a duplicate entry error, here is what it means and how to fix it.
What Triggers the Error
The system checks for two types of duplicates:
1. Exact Duplicate Entry (always blocked)
"A duplicate entry already exists for this section with the same dancer(s). Entry #[ID] already contains these dancers."
This means an entry with the exact same dancers in the exact same section already exists. This block always applies, even for events where multiple solo entries per dancer are allowed.
2. Dancer Already in Section (Solo Entries)
"[Dancer Name] already has an entry in this section (Entry #[ID]). A dancer cannot be entered twice in the same section."
This applies to solo entries only. By default a dancer cannot have two solo entries in the same section. For group entries (duos, trios, groups), the same dancer can appear in multiple entries in the same section as long as the dancer combination is different.
Organisers can lift the solo restriction. When the organiser turns on "Allow a dancer to enter the same section more than once for solos" (Event Editor → Entry Settings), the same dancer can submit multiple solo entries in the same section, each with a different routine. The dancer will then appear twice in the section's entry list and ranking; if they place in the top three with both, both placements are honoured. Battle performance types remain one-per-dancer-per-section regardless of this setting.
How to Fix It
| Situation | Solution |
|---|---|
| You accidentally created the same entry twice | Delete the duplicate from your Entries page |
| A dancer has two solos in the same section, but the event does not allow this | Change one to a different section (different style, level, or performance type), or ask the organiser to enable multi-solo for the event |
| You want to re-enter with different music/routine name | Edit the existing entry instead of creating a new one |
What IS Allowed
A dancer can have multiple entries as long as they are in different sections or in different group combinations:
- Same dancer in Jazz Solo AND Contemporary Solo: allowed (different style)
- Same dancer in Junior Solo AND Junior Duo: allowed (different performance type)
- Same dancer in Novice Solo AND Advanced Solo: allowed (different level)
- Same dancer in Junior Jazz Advanced Duo (with Dancer B) AND Junior Jazz Advanced Duo (with Dancer C): allowed (different group combination)
- Same dancer in two Junior Jazz Advanced Solos: only allowed if the organiser has turned on multi-solo entries for this event; otherwise blocked.
